2022 Carp Removal

Lake Winona 2nd Carp Harvest

ALASD, Stantec, WSB and area fisherman removed 1,611 carp (about 8,460lbs) as part of ALASDs adaptive lake management per the permit requirements of the MPCA.

Carp are invasive species that cause water quality problems through their feeding and nesting behaviors which disturb sediments causing the release of phosphorus from the sediments and increased turbidity (water clarity). Carp also destroy native, beneficial aquatic plant vegetation which is needed for quality habitat for other aquatic organisms. Carp also have a negative impact on desirable fish populations through resource competition and habitat degradation.

Please contact ALASD if you have any questions.
